Production of this plant extract library was funded by a grant
from the Starr Foundation to the Osher Institute of Medicine at
Harvard Medical School. The library contains extracts from plants
used in traditional Chinese medicine. Crude extracts from the plants
were obtained and further fractionated to eliminate nuisance compounds,
especially those of high molecular weight or high polarity.
Screening positives that have been confirmed by follow-up experiments
on cherry picked samples can be further fractionated via a collaboration
with the lab of Dr. Jon Clardy (BCMP Department, Harvard
Medical School). Please
contact Caroline Shamu (caroline_shamu"AT"hms.harvard.edu)
to arrange for purification of “hit” compounds from extract samples.
The Starr2 library was created by reformatting many of the same extracts that were present in Starr1. There are no extracts in Starr2 that were not also present in Starr1.
